Catalytic Reversible (De)hydrogenation To Rotate a Chemically Fueled Molecular Switch

Abstract We report here the development of a rotating molecular switch based on metal‐catalyzed reversible (de)‐hydrogenation. Under an argon atmosphere, acceptorless dehydrogenation induces from alcohol to ketone, while reversing hydrogen pressure switches back system alcohol. Based tolane scaffold, such (de)‐hydrogenation enables 180° rotation. The absence waste accumulation in relying chemical stimuli is great significance and could potentially be applied design efficient complex machines.
